20th class reunions this past year. The reason I did so was that I to public school( Warrensville Heights Junior High) until I was 14 years old.
Then when my basketball skills had attracted attention and my attention to females blossomed my mother thought it best that I went to an all boys catholic school( St.Peter Chanel).
Let me tell you being a kid that grew up in a more than predominately middle class black neighborhood and being sent to school with rich white kids was quite an adjustment. I'm not saying we didn't have any white kids that went to school with me at Warrensville ...
When I walked into the room that evening for WHHS 20th year reunion it was good to see friends that I may have not seen in quite some time , plus I was paid by the reunion committee to perform.
Sure some of the people that I went to junior high school was wondering just what might come out of my mouth seeing that even in those days I was known to be quite the jokester . When I first hit the stage gave love to all the females in the class of 86' for giving me the drive to be somebody for I had never been in a room with that many women that had told me no since I left the school.
Gave props to Charmel Moore "pictured in red dress" for teaching me how to french kiss ( I had flunked spanish .. but Charmel made sure i could parlez-vous francais)
Being at Chanel was quite an experience. When I graduated I told myself that I wouldn't contemplate going to a reunion seeing I felt being at all boys school was like being imprisoned ( in the sense there were no girls to impress with my life accomplishments).
I hope that this doesn't come off as I didn't truly enjoy myself at my high school I did . Hell I played basketball on one of the best teams in my schools history, had a chance to get my cross cultural perspective broadened and I went to school across the street from Halle Berry ... NUFF SAID!!!
I can remember running in front of traffic at break neck speed when the bell rang just so I could holla at her....I'm not implying that she paid me any attention ... just liked HOLLERIN' at her " Yo Halle what's up!!!"
My partners Keith and Marvin convinced me that I would be only cheating myself of a once in a lifetime opportunity.
When I went to the Chanel reunion it was actually cool to see the guys again ...
we had our shared "pen" memories.
Talked about some of the people that
weren't as lucky as us to still be here ya dig ...
And of course we tossed a few back.
